Pigeon

Bird Control is a challenge for both the building and home owners as well as the pest control operator. Exclusion is the most effective solution to most bird problems. Care should be taken in cleaning up any rodent/bird droppings or harborages as to the possibility of disease within. Call with any questions regarding bird control, exclusion and clean up services.

Pigeons have thrived in our cities by adapting to life, learning to roost and breed in the seemingly inhospitable environment provided by tall buildings, and to survive on the food available. Pigeons will inhabit any area that will offer them shelter from the climate, such as ornate architectural features of buildings, lofts, church steeples, attics, and any place with openings that allow for roosting, loafing and nesting. They are not disturbed by replicas of owls, snakes or hawks, for very long and have even been known to move the snakes out of the way or sit and nest up against the plastic owl. As an example: Pigeons will wait patiently, for the warehouse building door to open, when people or equipment is being brought in or removed, they swoop in or out quickly as the doors open. They have human routines down to a "T" and know they can get in by just waiting long enough. Pigeons are strictly daytime animals, and they seek out a safe place to roost every night, and they will only fly at night when disturbed or threatened. A pigeon can go, if necessary, a long time without food or even water.

A pigeons normal lifespan in nature is about 3 to 4 years. The bird is about 33 cm in length and weighs between 280 and 560 g, the average being about 350 g. Its plummage can vary considerably, from a close resemblance to that of the original rock dove ( with blue-gray plumage, double black wing bars and white rump) through various blues, reds to almost pure black. Pigeon control is important due to the damage and disease problem these birds often create.
